Sliding doors run on tracks and stack behind each other within a frame. Sliding doors are the most commonly used system in Australian homes due to its ease of use and supply availability. They generally come in double track or triple track options and can be used as a solution for very large openings. Bifold doors feature vertical glazing panels connected on hinges that stack at one or both ends of the opening span. This allows large unobstructed openings that provide great ventilation and can be combined with retractable fly screens. This system is extensively used where indoor and outdoor space connectivity is important for entertaining or visual connectivity. 

This system is not recommended for heavy use in commercial premises such as cafés, as it would require extensive maintenance and care when compared with other more cost-effective systems.

Hinged doors are the simplest and most durable system and are commonly used for entrance doors, laundry doors and also as a double panel opening in the French Door style, to access backyards and balconies. This system also provides great ventilation for the room and can be combined with retractable fly screens.
